Konstantinos Papagelis Assistant Professor

Dr. K. Papagelis is an Assistant Professor (since 2010) at the Department of Materials Science (Univ. of Patras) and visiting faculty member at FORTH/ICE-HT. He has MSc in Physics of Materials and a PhD in Physics both from the Department of Physics (Aristotle Univ. of Thessaloniki). He carried out post- doctoral research for more than two years supported by the Marie Curie program of EU at the Univ. of Sussex (UK) in the lab of Prof. K. Prassides. After a short period as a contract Lecturer he held a Lecturer position (2005) at the Department of Materials Science (Univ. of Patras).

Also, he was visiting researcher for about two years at the Univ. of Regensburg (Germany), Univ. of Bristol (UK) and Technische Universität Berlin (Germany). He taught undergraduate and graduate courses and lab exercises at the Materials Science Department (Univ. of Patras). He has supervised more than 20 Diploma and 4 M.Sc. Theses. He is guiding 2 PhD students (and 2 others co-supervised) and mentored 2 post-doctoral fellows. His current research activities are focused on physics and mechanical properties of graphene, synthesis and characterization of functionalized carbon nanotubes, as well as the production of high volume fraction carbon nanotube- and graphene- based polymer nanocomposites with superior mechanical properties.

He has active collaborations with UK (Bristol, Manchester, Durham, Queen Mary), France (ESRF), Germany (Berlin), Japan (Tohoku, AIST Institute) and USA (Los Alamos). He is a frequent user of large facilities such as ESRF, LANSCE, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and others.
