George KalosakasLecturer
Dr. George Kalosakas is a Lecturer at the Department of Materials Science, Univ. of Patras, and visiting faculty member at FORTH/ICE-HT. He has BSc in Physics from the Department of Physics, Univ. of Athens, and MSc in Condensed Matter Physics and a PhD in Physics both from the Department of Physics, Univ. of Crete. He carried out post-doctoral research for more than three years at Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA, working with Dr. Alan R. Bishop, and for more than two years at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, Dresden Germany. He has also visited for collaboration CEA-CNRS (Saclay, France), UC Berkeley (USA), Univ. of New Mexico (USA), Technical University of Denmark (Lyngby,Denmark), and NCSR Demokritos (Athens, Greece).
He taught undergraduate and graduate courses and lab exercises at the Materials Science Department, Univ. of Patras (2006 to present) and an advanced course in Solid State Physics at the Physics Department, Univ. of Crete as a visiting faculty member (2000). He has supervised 8 Diploma and 4 M.Sc. Thesis and participated in the committee of 4 Ph.D Theses. His current research activities are focused on low-dimensional condensed matter, nonlinear and biological systems, including for example statistical, dynamical, and electronic properties of DNA, and vibrational and elastic propterties of graphene.
